Course overview


Safeguarding is everybody’s business. It is vital for everyone who works with children, young people, families and/or adults to be fully committed to the safety and wellbeing of the people they work with. 

The Designated Safeguarding Person will be the first point of contact for safeguarding within an organisation so an in depth understanding of the role is a must. That is why you are required to do the Group C training. Please note, you must complete your Group B training prior to completing this group C training.

A Designated Safeguarding Person needs to be able to recognise welfare issues, share appropriate information, manage staff training, and make referrals to the Local Authority Safeguarding team.

In Wales there are requirements under the Social Services and Well-being Act (Wales) 2014 which in relation to safeguarding practice. The National training, learning and development standards for Group C are covered in this course. 

It is advised by Social Care Wales that this generic Group C training be renewed every 3 years. In addition they advise you complete 6 hours CPD per year.

Course modules


Module 1 - The role of the Designated Safeguarding Person - An overview of the DSP role, Wales Safeguarding Procedures, promoting positive practice, working with the SMT, areas of responsibility, types of disclosures, allegations against staff including position of trust, referral decisions when disclosures have been made, advocacy, staff support, sharing information, reflective practice and professional curiosity. 

Module 2 - Working together to safeguard children and adults - The Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014, The role of Regional Safeguarding Boards (Adults and Children), their responsibilities and how they can support the designated safeguarding person, building contacts outside of your organisation (partnership working). 

Module 3 - Training, support and development of staff - Training requirements for staff members (Group A and B), training and development for the designated safeguarding person, including ongoing CPD. Monitoring and reviewing training, support and supervision, peer support and safer recruitment.

Do I need to do any extra work?

You will be required to compete a learner file. This is an enabled PDF so you can type your answers in. You will upload this in your learning area along with your learner registration form. 

We will then mark your learner file and provide feedback.

Once this is complete we will put a request in to AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group for your formal certificate.

How do I get my formal certificate?

This will be posted out to you by recorded delivery once we receive it from the awarding body. However, you can download your CPD certificate immediately upon completion.
