We hear the phrase equality, diversity and inclusion all of the time, but what does it mean in practice? and how can we make sure that we create a working environment that offers true equality? A common misconception is that equality means treating people the same and that is where we often go wrong.

Organisations need to implement equality, diversity and inclusion policies and practices. Not only to ensure that they comply with legislation, but to create a respectful and inclusive workplace and workforce. Individuals need to understand what those policies mean and how they apply the practices outlined within them.

As individuals we need to recognise our own unconscious bias and challenge ourselves about preconceived ideas and understand where these come from, which should result in a more accepting and understanding viewpoint.

This course contains the following modules:

1. Understand what is meant by equality and diversity - In this module you will look at the meaning of equality and diversity and the differences between them. We explore unconscious bias and how this affects your views and delve into discrimination and the different forms it can take. 

2. What is meant by discrimination - In this module you will look at discrimination in more detail. Including by association or perception and protected characteristics. We cover harassment and the proactive duty placed on employers. In addition, we cover #metoo, time's up, the gender pay gap, terminology, and victimisation.

3. An inclusive workplace - In this module you will look at the main legislation covering equality and ways in which employers can meet their duty. How to promote an inclusive workplace, with case studies challenging how you would address certain situations and the importance of motorizing and reviewing.

This course takes learners approx 1.5 hours to complete.
