A mental disorder is characterised by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual's cognition, emotional regulation or behaviour. It is usually associated with distress or impairment in important areas of functioning. There are many different types of mental disorders.
As this is an awareness course, we will focus on the most common ones identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) which are:
Anxiety disorders.
Depression.
Bipolar disorder.
PTSD.
Schizophrenia.
Eating disorders,
Disruptive behaviour and dissocial disorders.
This will increase your understanding of these mental health conditions and provide an overview or ways to improve mental health.
This course contains the following modules:
1. Understanding mental health - this module explains the following mental health conditions; anxiety disorders, depressions, bipolar disorder, PTSD, eating disorders, disruptive behaviour and dissocial disorders.
2. Staying well and recovery - In this module we will look at the Mental Health Act, this is the main piece of legislation that covers assessment, treatment and rights of people with a mental health disorder. We provide an overview of the various interventions and support available and types of medications that can be prescribed. We also look at the consequences of having a diagnosis and tips for promoting good mental health.
This course takes learners approx 1 hour to complete.
